I really like the show, and think it has done tremendously well, however:

Um, no you can't, but at this stage I don't care, i just laughed at the trailer, so bring it on.
"Groening and his team were very careful about over-exploiting the successful franchise."
Yeah, um, i thought that a while back as i listended to 'do the bart man' in my bart underpants, with my homer 'doh t-shirt, smithers halloween mask drinking a duff beer, halfway through the simpson's board game.
"Former US vice-president Dan Quayle was mercilessly ribbed by Groening and his team - in the guise of Bart - in 1992, after he notoriously misspelled the world "potato" during a visit to an elementary school."
Wasn't that Murphy Brown? Quayle criticised the character for being a single mum, then screwed up the spelling of potato, so they pilloried him in every subsequent episode.
